I want to build a website where I can sell my photos online. Can anyone recommend a good site or when is Adorama going to provide that?

The simplest way is to use a product called Jalbum with a 'skin' containing a shopping cart. FotoPlayer is pretty useful for this. Jalbum is free, you can host on their site but you'll need buy the skin to get rid of the nag on it. Some people don't seem to mind having Dinah's adverts as part of the client experience. I think if your pics are good, you could probably use the system to get paid, send them to Adorama for printing andvget them delivered from the Lab to your client. That's what a lot of people do.

Hi Johnny, can you tell me a little more about this Jalbum & having Adorama deliver your prints to your clients? I was using shutterbug before I discovered AdoramaPix but I like AdoramaPix much better except that I had to have the prints sent to me than repackage them and send them to my customers (not very cost effective double S&H). I was using Adorama's Galleries for displaying my photos to my customers but there was no way to have them order the prints except by e-mailing me the file numbers. Would be nice if Adorama would provide that (for a small fee of course)

I agree.  I think it would be great to post albums through Adorama and allow customers to purchase prints from Adorama (for a percentage fee profit to Adorama).  Adorama does an awesome job of printing!

Thank you Mustafa for helping me get my picture on, I forgot I had to log in first.

I would like to post albums for sale as well, Adorama do the printing and shipping for a fee, and use Paypal or credit card for payment. I sell many cards in my home town but want to spread my wings a bit, just like everyone else. Very helpful people so far, and fun to see the comments. Thanks!

I'm branching out also, a lot of people from the high school sports that I cover ( http://gobigblu.com ) are from other towns and I need to be able to send to photos directly to them.

I use photoreflect.com currently but 2 problems. Adorama is not listed in their labs and they're expensive when ppl order. Free to put up, but take a huge portion when they process orders for you. I usually just take the the orders through photoreflect and place the order to Adorama.

Photoreflect is nice because you can set up an entire website with them or integrate it into yours as I did www.gandkphotograpy.com

I would love it if I could use an Adorama product for Pros. Something that does not show my client where I am ordering from and Adorama's Pricing. I love sending the link to the created album but computer savy customers could find out the actual cost and get mad.

Shutterbug sounds a little better than that, they tell you how much your charge is and allow you to set your own mark up. Then when your customers place an order they packageit as if it came directly from you. The thing I don't like is the customer pays them directly and they send you the money at the end of the month ( as long as it's over $100.00) plus they are located in California and most of my customers are in NJ, Phila, and Delaware which meanshiger shipping and longer delivery times. Adorama does and excellent job of printing, I'm really not worried about customers finding out whatI paid for processing, I sell my ability to get the shots they can't get (press pass), expertise and quality. I like the way Adorama works with options on their galleries, I just want  the ability to drop ship to my customers so I don't have to repackage and reship.

Hi all,

We do dropship in white boxes that do not say AdoramaPix on them, however a packing slip is included in the shipment. The packing slip does not contain any pricing.

Another option for a storefront is PhotoShelter. They offer all kinds of marketing and SEO support and I think you can integrate into your own site. AND they have AdoramaPix as one of their print partners, so you can have your clients place orders through us. www.photoshelter.com.

Hope this helps,

Ingrid

Thanks Ingrid, can you tell me a little more about the drop shipping, I usually just hit the "submit order" button and all my information (billing & ship to address is already filled in.

I have used Shutterbug Storefront for a few years. I am moderately satisfied. Would like more options on a main page and I would like to for people to be able to browse photos without a price list always visible.

I fulfill photo orders through whcc and let them fulfill the gift items.

Let me know what you think: www.BobbyMayberry.com

Hey bobby i like your gallery is simple, is that a template that you purchase or what?

The fee is $12.95 per month and that includes their templates. Not many options, but what they have works.

It is simple. I am not a fan of flash on photography websites. Waste of bandwidth, especially on dial-up.

It has been a year since I have had a significant month from the site. I was getting $150-300 per month when it suddenly dropped to $20-50.  At least it has always been enough to pay the $12.95...

Hey Bobby, if you're going to keep shutterbug you should consider taking the yeasly package ($99.95 vs $154.40 monthly).  It wasn't that I dislike Shutterbug, they do great work. I just found Adorama to be just asgood, faster, cheaper and Idon't have to wait for theend of the month (plus the time it takes to actually get the check) to get paid. I, like you started off with a decent amout of work. Then I hit adry spell andit took a few months to build my account back. My account is good through December( http://dsphotos.shutterbugstorefront.com/g/ ) but I haven't added anything new since I started using Adorama. I'm going to start using Photoshop elements to create my galleries and put them on my own websit ( http://dynamicspectrumphotography.com ) and if it works out , then I'll let Shutterbug go, but I will miss not having top keep up with the orders and record keeping they do for you.

Mustafa, I sent you an email last Friday using this email address: photography@dynamicspectrum.com

It was returned as undeliverable.

Basically wanted to exchange some ideas since our marketing seems similar...

Bobby, my bad It should have been photograph@dynamicspectrumphotography.com please resend it. I'm always looking for new ideas in photography & marketing. Do you have any experience in web design or html?

Hi Mustafa, Sure. When you are checking out, click on the "edit" button for the shipping address and add your client's address. As I said, we only send prices in emails to the owner of the account, a packing slip will be included in the package, but no prices are stated.

Again, I'd like to recommend PhotoShelter for a storefront; they also have lots of webinars and downloadable reports on SEO and marketing. Plus you can print with us. Check them out here: http://www.photoshelter.com/index/b

Hi Ingrid, Thanks, can't wait to try it out. I cheched out photoshelter. they'er a lot like Shutterbug. I think I'm going to just make galleries using photoshop elements ( http://dynamicspectrumphotography.com/allstrs-1/index.html )and upload them to my website ( http://dynamicspectrumphotography.com ). Then use Adoramas drop shipping.

I made my first photobook last night, I like the sogtware and interface, Now I just have to play around with it alittle bit.

Hi Mustafa. As you learn the photo book editor, if there is anything you wish was different - please let us know. First impressions are so important. Those of us who have used the software a lot have more difficulty seeing it with fresh eyes. We've become accustomed to its quirks. :-)

 Thanks!

Well said people by now should no that the price of printing photos is dirt cheap, at least anyone in this planet does. People are not paying for prints only  but for you time and your knowledge, what the the hell if they finds out you only paid $2.00 for and 8x10 they paid you $15.00 let them suffer. Or perhaps they should become photographer and charge less.

Carlos this is not a direct quote form me "Well said people by now should no that the price of printing photos is dirt cheap, at least anyone in this planet does. Professional courtesy???? suppose she is, I don't think she would post that information in this type of forum

Ingrid, is there any future plan to allow people to purchase right from my AdoramaPix gallery?  I would like to mark up Adorama's prices, for example 20%, and use that money as credits on future prints, books, or even items purchased at adorama.com.  I would like to see orders my customers place from my gallery, perhaps get an email when an order is placed.  I think this would be a popular addition rather than paying a monthly fee to photoshelter and a percentage of all purchases. There are other sites that do this but I like the quality, service, and prices at adoramapix the best!

Dan, We have no plans to offer the ability to allow for marking up our prices for resale. We are partnered with PhotoShelter and you can print through us if you host with them.

I've read all the comments for this thread and have checked out photoshelter and it looks really good. Does photoshelter do greeting cards? If not does anyone know a good place that does?

Hi everybody, it's been quite some time since I posted here but I thought  the info I have might be useful.

I was using Shutterbug, and then switched to Zenfolio for selling my pictures, neither was giving me the type of profit I  wanted  to begin with but when the economy started to decline, so did my orders. When I polled my clients I found that  the cost of the prints plus S & H was just getting to be to much for them. So I resumed my search for a way to do it my self. After much searching I decided to go with the combination of Jalbum & FotoPlayer  (www.jalbum.com   &   www.fotoplayer.com ). A word to the wise jhowever, if you don't know how to (properly) edit  XML files you may want to look elsewhere. Jalbum is free but you need to purchase the licesne to use it for comercial purposes (it's worth it). FotoPlayer is the skin you need to set up your shopping cart, credit card, paypal systems etc. FotoPlayer advertises as "easy" to use but I ended up paying  a friend who does flash websites to edit the XML files necessary to make your own price lists and shopping cart. FotoPlayer also works with Lightroom and is advertised to woork with Flckr & Picasa but beware, those two don't allow you to sell even if you buy their pro package. Jalbum is free but if you don't have your own website (for album storage) you will need to buy more space from them pretty quickly. The big savings come from not having to mark up your prices to cover third party charges as well as the lower cost of AdoramaPix. Then thereis (of course) the added benifit of bulk preordering offered by Adorama. So, if you are serious about making your own photo website with galleries you may want to take a look at them.
